The natural reserve was created with the purpose of preserving a sample of the migratory bird habitat for the Cerulean Warbler (Setophaga cerulea), making it the first reserve in South America established to protect a migratory bird.
Location:
The natural reserve is located on the western slope of the Eastern Andes in Colombia, in San Vicente de Chucurí, Santander, near the Yariguíes mountains.
HOW TO GET THERE?
Public transportation:
At Bucaramanga’s Transport Terminal, Module 3, take a bus from the Coopetran or Cootransmagdalena companies, with departures to San Vicente de Chucurí every hour from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
From San Vicente de Chucurí, transportation to the natural reserve is required. Available options include a 4×4 vehicle or a motorcycle taxi, both of which can be taken from the main square.
Private transportation:
From Bucaramanga, take the Girón-Lebrija road until the Lisbon junction, approximately 1 hour. From there, take the road to San Vicente de Chucurí, bordering the Hidrosogamoso project.
Once in the main square, take the road leading to the La Germania village (we recommend using only a 4×4 vehicle or a jeep, as cars are restricted due to road conditions). Along the way, you will find signage leading to the natural reserve. The journey from San Vicente de Chucurí to Reinita Cielo Azul takes approximately 30 minutes.
