Las Tángaras ProAves Reserve was created to protect the habitat of two endemic bird species: the Gold-ringed Tanager (Bangsia aureocincta) and the Black-and-gold Tanager (Bangsia melanochlamys).

Location

Las Tángaras ProAves Reserve is located in the municipality of Carmen de Atrato, in the Chocó department.

How to get there?

Public Transportation:

Take a bus from the Surandina company at Medellín’s South Terminal heading to the municipality of Carmen de Atrato, Chocó.

Once at the “El Siete” stop, take a private transport service to the reserve facilities, approximately a 15-minute ride.

*It is not necessary to go all the way to Carmen de Atrato.

 

Private Transportation:

Any vehicle is suitable for reaching the nature reserve.

Approximate travel time: 5 hours.

Note: From the reserve’s cabin to the trails, there is an 8-kilometer distance. Visitors should book transportation in advance or have their own.

Route: Medellín – Caldas – Amagá – Bolombolo – Ciudad Bolívar – “El Siete” stop – ProAves Reserve Las Tángaras (“El Ocho” stop).
